An interview with stakeholder and CEO Marli Crowe revealed our task to re-Imagine the C-Suite Journal and Planner as a mobile productivity app.

C.Suite is a small business on a mission to help African American women level-up their careers. C.Suite is an online service where job seekers can receive one-on-one career coaching, resume revisions, shop for professional clothing and purchase the C.Suite Career Planner and Journal PDF for download.

What are related apps already doing well?

Mood Meter is a Yale research-based method of mood tracking. This method is used in educational systems to help children develop their emotional intelligence and resiliency. It utilized a 4-quadrant system and descriptors to track your mood over time and provide valuable insights.

Linkedin is a worldwide social networking website/app for professionals to seek jobs, make business connections and share knowledge. It provides resume building and skill sharing which was a valuable resource for the C.Suite project. Indeed provided unique design insights as well.

Structured is a 4.8/5 star rated planner app used by over 200K users. It is simple, clean and extremely user friendly, while simultaneously allowing for user customization. This app provided valuable insight into how to organize the main features of the C.Suite project.

IDEATE

Design Studio

A team ideation workshop helped us come to an understanding of how to organize the necessary features of the C.Suite app.

We parted with questions on how these sections would interconnect, such as how the journal entry would show up on the calendar, how resume words would be tracked and where users would land when they open the app.

I took the initiative to expand on these ideas with more in-depth explorative sketches, with a focus on how these pieces would fit together.

Design

Calendar

The Calendar View is the first page a User lands on when they open the app. This is the heart of the use for the C.Suite Career Planner, and therefore the center in which all other features are reliant upon.

Journal

The journal is the heart of the “Resume Word” building feature, which seeks to build confidence in the user’s daily accomplishments, and guide the user to lean into more career-building tasks based on their goals.

Mood Tracker

The Mood Tracker is a feature which supports the journal and provides the user with insights about how their moods shift around their daily activities.

Profile and Questionnaire

The original C.Suite Planner includes a career reflection questionnaire, which included several pages of inquiries. The inquiries ranged from career goal questions, reflections on income, tasks enjoyed and not enjoyed, feedback from co-workers and career history questions. This questionnaire was organized into four major groups to simplify on the Profile Page, based on organization from career focused sites such as Linkedin and Indeed.
